Holiday Help Wanted? Call a CAREGiver

Seattle WA Senior Woman with In Home CaregiverQuestion:  I am an 88-year-old widow who loves the holidays. Back in the day, I decorated every room in the house and placed lights outdoors as well. I am unable to do any of that these days, and my children live away. They are all coming home this holiday, though, and I would love to surprise them with a decorated house. Is there a way to do that as well as to get help with the cooking and baking that goes along with the festivities?

As a matter of fact, we do have an idea. Why not enlist the help of your community. Do you have neighbors who put up outdoor lights? If so, they may love to decorate and would not mind illuminating the outside of your home as well in the spirit of the holidays.

Many communities have companies that will decorate the outside of a home. Check online or visit the yellow pages to find if there is anyone who would be willing to put up as well as take down your lights after the holidays.

Now for the inside of your house:  We can help!  Home Instead Senior Care has CAREGgivers that are ready and willing to help you prepare for the festive holiday season.

A CAREGiver can haul out those decorations from the garage or the attic, and help prepare your home for the season and the arrival of your family. CAREGivers can also assist with that all-important holiday shopping list, meal preparations and errands. Services can be contracted for just a few hours a week and up to 24 hours a day, seven days a week including holidays.

The holidays leading up to the time your family arrives can be a lonely time of year as well. That’s why the companionship of a Home Instead CAREGiver is an added benefit in preparing for the arrival of family.

Efforts are made to match CAREGivers with seniors of similar interests and hobbies. So the CAREGiver who assists you will likely share common interests and perhaps even a few favorite holiday memories of her own.

You may like your CAREGiver so much that you will want to maintain this assistance long after the holiday season has ended and into the new year. Call it your holiday gift to yourself!
